While supporting Duke University’s Climate Commitment, I worked across a complex organization to identify key people, align new and existing priorities, and help shape a cohesive program.
SCALe - Sustainability and Climate Applied Learning
As an MBA consultant during the summer, I supported the development of a new applied learning program. The goal was to integrate classroom learning with the campus environment - whether through a rooftop garden, a water retention pond, or other sites that could enrich students’ learning experiences. In 2022, only a few weeks after I joined Duke, the university announced the Duke Climate Commitment. Two years later, I had the opportunity to work with the Office of Climate and Sustainability in shaping one of the pillars of this commitment. See more at the evolving SCAle website.
Environmental Protection Tools - Biodiversity Credits
During my first summer at Duke (Nicholas School article), I explored the concept of biodiversity credits for a major national conservation organization, the National Parks Conservation Association. Our focus was on assessing the feasibility of creating a simple yet robust metric to help finance environmental protection efforts. Could biodiversity credits achieve this goal? My short answer was no, and I continued to examine this topic in depth over the following years as part of my Master’s Project at the Nicholas School.
